Tulum is a community that is growing, and fortunately with a conscience.
Organizations exist to make sure that Tulum doesn't lose its' history and
proud prehispanic roots, but at the same time evolve into a successful
modern community. The following groups invite you to learn more about the
area and participate for the benefit of Tulum as well as yourself.
Center
Cultural Tulum Here you will be able to appreciate and/ or participate in the practice of the XILAM, which is a prehispanic martial art. The XILAM is composed of technical knowledge, as well as corporal, philosophical and discipline. The Xilam consists of 3 levels; each one uses the distinctive characteristics of abilities of 7 animals, which are; serpent, eagle, ocelote, monkey, deer, iguana and armadillo. Their practitioners seek harmony with their environment. If you would like to know more about this prehispanic martial art please inquire at the Cultural Center, where they will be happy to give you more information.

Tulum
community A.C. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, organization and development of social projects, cultural, health and ecological, for the benefit of Tulum. Community A.C. strive for the maintenance, conservation, diffusion and promotion of the ecological, archaeological, historical and cultural patrimony of Tulum and also collaborate for the creation of the master plan for the community development of Tulum. Tulum community A.C. work by means of donations (tax deductible); if you want to help to this organization or know more about their specific activities go to Charlie's restaurant, located on Av. Tulum in front of the bus station.

Taller Cero, A.C. Have a good time making handicrafts and surprise yourself with the creativity that you posses! Dedicated to rediscovery and development of creativity and manual capacity of the children of Tulum. Through workshops and activities the local children will learn to have a more independent and productive life, as well as awaken the sense of respect, protection and love toward themselves, their community and the biological diversity that surround them.
Taller Cero, A.C. offers several workshops daily such as handicrafts,
theater, corporal expression and nutrition. They also maintains a
bookstore for the children. Taller Cero, A.C. accepts donations of
materials for their workshops, books and cash donations. Visit them next
to the baseball field. Their schedule is Monday through Friday 3: 00 to 5:
00 PM and Saturdays 11am to 1pm. Or write them at:
